Start With the Fundamentals
Before worrying about a specific platform, understand the common mechanics: resume parsing, structured application fields, screening questions, recruiter search, filters, and human review.
Platform-Specific Guides
ATS brands matter less than many job seekers assume because every employer configures its process differently. These guides explain the platform-specific concepts that are useful without pretending we can see an employer's private settings.
The Five Parts of an ATS Application
- Document parsing The system attempts to identify your contact information, employers, titles, dates, education, skills, and certifications from the uploaded resume.
- Structured fields Application fields create searchable and reportable data. Verify them rather than assuming the resume attachment replaces them.
- Screening questions Employers may use answers about authorization, licensing, location, schedule, or required experience as hard or soft screens.
- Search and filtering Recruiters can search titles, skills, tools, industries, employers, certifications, locations, and other candidate data.
- Human evaluation A recruiter or hiring manager still needs to understand the relevance, credibility, scale, and results of your experience.
What We Will Not Tell You
There is one universal ATS score
Consumer scanners use their own formulas. Employers use different platforms, settings, questions, integrations, and review processes.
Every missing keyword causes rejection
Keywords affect discovery and relevance, but hard screens, recruiter judgment, applicant volume, referrals, and employer priorities also matter.
A formatting trick can replace qualifications
Simple formatting protects the information you already have. It cannot create experience, licenses, results, or credibility that are not present.
A Better ATS Strategy
Use one clear reading order, standard headings, recognizable terminology, truthful application answers, and accomplishment-based evidence. That approach works across ATS brands because it supports both the technology and the recruiter using it.
